The Moving Voice

Led by Hannah Parsons, The Moving Voice is a new weekly workshop hosted at London Performance Studios.

THE MOVING VOICE is designed to bring confidence, clarity and creativity into singing.

Each of the sessions will follow a similar structure which will allow us to return to and deepen our practice, with the aim of offering tools you can take away and use in your own work.

Beginning with images and information about the internal anatomy of the voice, we will take guided movement and voice explorations to acquaint ourselves with the sensations of sound making. Bringing articulation to the voice, we will learn songs and vocal compositions. We explore pitch and harmony through sensation, listening to ourselves and others. From this base, we move into choreographic and compositional games, exercises and propositions.

Thinking of body and voice as one instrument, it is designed for those with a physical practice, or some experience in movement (although not essential) and would like to develop their use of voice.

Hannah Parsons is a queer dance artist who works with voice and sound. Her interest is synthesising
voice and body practises to turn the body into a single instrument of sound and movement.

Her work combines improvisation, somatic practices, postmodern compositional techniques with performative exuberance to create performance environments that are immersive, tactile and other-wordly, allowing audiences proximity to imagination and playfulness. They have recently had training with vocal practitioners Josefina Rozenwasser, Jamie McCarthy and Carolina Mendonca, encouraging a deeper practice in vocal and sound exploration.

Hannah regularly collaborates with Unbaptised Infants (UK/ES) and STICKY collective (NO/UK). Between 2020 - 2022 she choreographed and composed two collaborative performance works, RITUAL and Ecoheroes (Økohelter).

As a performer they currently work with Simone Mousset in Empire of a Faun Imaginary (LUX/FR/UK) and Elinor Lewis with the work TIMBER. She has previously worked with artists including Marina Abramovic, Martin Creed, Joe Garbett and Seke Chiumutengwende, amongst others.
