DO SOMETHING:

Acting Workshop for Writers

Workshop

Drawing on Rebecca’s experience as an actor, playwright, theatre-maker and actor trainer, this workshop will pull together practical, embodied strategies for writers to explore structure, character, setting, action, dialogue and more. We will begin with fun, impulse-releasing games and move through longer exercises and improvisations drawn from a variety of acting practitioners such as Stanislavski, Chekhov, Lecoq, Hagen, Adler, and Meisner.

Participants can arrive empty-handed, with the seeds of an idea, or with a draft at any stage they would like to explore further. There will be time in every session for participants to generate and/or refine written material on the page, and the possibility to work that material on the floor to create work that is detailed, nuanced and compelling. This work will be particularly pertinent to those writing for performance, but anyone working in a storytelling form will find something to explore here. Actors and performers with an interest in writing or devising will also benefit. No acting or performance experience is required for participants, only a willingness to play.
